As part of the outlet’s month-long coverage of all things Rise of the Tomb Raider, GameInformer has divulged new gameplay information pertaining to Crystal Dynamic’s forthcoming sequel, which place a heavy emphasis on the snow-covered area of Siberia.

Boasting dynamic and indeed unrelenting weather systems alongside more realistic animals, the studio is going all-in in order to render an challenging environment for Lara Croft. With a day-night system forcing you to constantly readjust your strategy, Crystal Dynamic’s true-to-life interpretation of Russia will also include avalanches as you traverse through the environment.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s story will take place exclusively in Siberia, as game director Brian Horton was quick to point out that players will be exploring multiple and crucially distinct environments throughout the course of the campaign.

“It isn’t completely permafrost. This Oasis, which we’re not going into a lot of detail about – just know that different weather, different temperatures are important to make sure we’re not going with one single look throughout the whole game.”

Earlier this month, we learned more about the overarching premise within Rise of the Tomb Raider. This time around, Lara will seek out to uncover a lost-city and one of its most alluring treasures: the immortal soul. Grounded in the mythic aura of its environment, Crystal Dynamics touched upon the ways in which the studio researched the legends of Russia, before settling on a search for immortality situated in what is no doubt one of the most hostile areas on the planet.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is currently slated to release for Xbox One and Xbox 360 this holiday season, where we assume it will remain exclusive for a twelve month period before arriving for PlayStation platforms.
