If Baywatch fancied its chances against horror sequel Annabelle 2 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, 20th Century Fox’s decision to move Alien: Covenant forward to May 19, 2017 has forced Paramount’s hand into delaying its star-studded comedy romp.

Don’t fret though, as Seth Gordon’s actioner has only been hit with a one-week delay, meaning the Baywatch movie will unleash the “Avengers of the Beach” over Memorial Day weekend on May 26, 2017. Headed up by Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Ilfenesh Hadera and Johnson’s San Andreas co-star Alexandra Daddario, we also have word that the film’s first trailer is expected to drop later this week. Trailer Track reports that the Baywatch teaser will be attached to Office Christmas Party, and we’ll have full coverage for you right here the moment it goes live.

Elsewhere on the release slate, Sony’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Life has vacated the May 26 corridor, and will now give Lionsgate’s Power Rangers a run for their box office money on March 24, 2017. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Life stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson as three astronauts aboard the International Space Station who come into contact with extra-terrestrial life. Horror and nail-bitting thrills ensue.

In light of today’s last-minute switcheroo, Baywatch will now trot off the beach and into theaters on May 26, 2017, squaring off against Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in the process. As for Life, sci-fi fans can look forward to Espinosa’s starry thriller touching down on March 24, 2017.
