Ok, so either we’re reading a bit too much into this or someone at Marvel/Disney seriously dropped the ball. A new TV spot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier released today and a voiceover from the titular hero may have just spoiled one of the film’s most shocking moments.

The spoiler comes when Chris Evans says “Fury’s last words were not to trust anyone.” Of course, this implies that Nick Fury is dead. After all, we do see his SUV explode only seconds earlier. So has the marketing team messed up big time here, or is Marvel just teasing us?

Well, it’s hard to say for sure, but given that this is an extremely high-profile film, it’s not likely that a spoiler like this would have been allowed to appear in the spot. Someone, somewhere, would have caught it before it went live. Plus, even if Fury is dead, it doesn’t mean that he won’t be coming back. As we’ve seen with Agent Coulson, death isn’t always permanent in the Marvel Universe.

Regardless, it’s still something that’s worth considering. However, we likely won’t have a clear answer until Captain America: The Winter Soldier marches into theatres on April 4th.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Is Nick Fury really dead?
