Marvel concept art unearthed by CBM heralds an up-close look at Hela, Goddess of Death, as she'll appear in Thor: Ragnarok.

Concept art produced by Marvel mainstay Andy Park has made its way into the threequel’s official Art of the Movie book, which is now available to pre-order over on Amazon for $50 (with a tip of the hat to CBM). It is, essentially, a wrap-around illustration, with the first half shedding light on Ragnarok‘s four big-name stars: Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, and Cate Blanchett as Hela, Goddess of Death. “What were you the god of again?”

Indeed, it was Blanchett’s power-mongering nemesis who stole headlines left, right, and center thanks to this morning’s trailer reveal, and we can only hope that the Oscar-winning actress can bring some much-needed nuance to Marvel’s roster of supervillains. Yes, for all of the studio’s meteoric success in the past ten years, you’d struggle to name more than three or four antagonists that struck a chord with their audience, so it’ll be fascinating to watch how fans react to Hela in a few months’ time.

Because make no mistake, the Goddess of Death is about to put Thor through his paces. Stripped of his prized Mjölnir, Marvel’s God of Thunder embarks on a “journey of self-discovery,” as he cobbles together a team of reluctant heroes – namely Loki, Valkyrie and the Incredible Hulk – to restore Asgard to its former glory.

This November, Thor: Ragnarok heralds the God of Thunder’s wildest adventure yet, and we can hardly wait. It’s been a long time coming, too, given Chris Hemsworth’s Norse god remained on the sidelines in Captain America: Civil War – ditto for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait as long for Thor’s next on-screen appearance, as the Phase One Avenger will be filing into Infinity War in time for its release on May 4th, 2018.
