While it’s only a rumor at this point, if it proves to be true, we may be seeing a very interesting cameo in The Avengers. Bleeding Cool is reporting that the web slinger himself, Spider-Man, may be making an appearance in The Avengers.

Actress Jenny Agutter, who has a small role in the film, recently did an interview where she let the secret slip.

“I’m sworn to secrecy! I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.”

The Radio Times were the ones who did the interview and they went on to say the following:

She does let slip that two of these housed Spider-Man and Iron Man; we suspect Agutter won’t able to avoid sci-fi conventions for much longer.

Now, before you get all excited, there’s two possibilities here. Either The Radio Times messed up and got their info wrong, or Agutter just let a huge secret slip. Also, it should be noted that Sony currently has the rights to Spider-Man, not Marvel Studios. It seems unlikely that Sony would allow Spidy to appear in The Avengers, unless some sort of deal has been made.

Right now this is all just speculation but it certainly has my curiosity piqued. What about you?
