A new United States trailer has debuted for We Need To Talk About Kevin, the film based on Lionel Shriver’s novel of the same title. The trailer is as dark and moody as the film should be, given its incredibly dark subject matter.

In the film, Tilda Swinton stars as a mother who never really got along with her child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). The book is chronicled through letters from Swinton’s character to her now ex-husband (John C. Reilly) after Kevin goes on a killing spree at his high school, leading to the demise of the marriage.

The trailer doesn’t even hint at this aspect of the novel, which takes place completely after Kevin’s crimes except for when flashbacks are described in the letters. I wish the plot was at least mentioned in the trailer, but overall, it still captures the bleakness of the novel.

I loved this book, and I can’t even imagine how such an intense story can be adapted to film. If you can’t already tell, I’m eager to see We Need To Talk About Kevin; check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
