Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music Joins Def Jam

Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music Joins Def Jam

Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music has now joined Def Jam, who will act as the label’s parent company. While Def Jam will oversee future releases from G.O.O.D. Music artists like Pusha T and CyHi Da Prynce, West’s own albums will continue to see release via Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam. Big Sean‘s Finally Famous will be the first release under the terms of this new partnership.

The label, which stands for Getting Out Our Dreams, was founded by West in 2004. Artists such as Kid Cudi, John Legend, Bon Iver and Common are all part of the group and in its short lifespan, G.O.O.D. Music has become pretty successful. A 14-time Grammy-winner (and 30-time Grammy nominee), the label definitely has a bright future ahead of it and the move to Def Jam was a smart one.

Check out what Barry Weiss, Chairman and COO of Universal Motown Republic Group and IDJMG and Steve Bartels, President and COO of IDJMG had to say about the deal.

“G.O.O.D. Music is an exciting new chapter in the long and successful association of Kanye West and Island Def Jam,” said Barry Weiss, Chairman and COO of Universal Motown Republic Group and IDJMG. “As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye.  We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean.”

“Kanye’s genius has been proven time and time again on records and onstage,” said Steve Bartels, President and COO of IDJMG. “He not only pours it out for himself, but he has made the difference with his presence on innumerable projects with other artists who are indebted to him.  Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”
