Catch Monsters Like Pokemon In Final Fantasy XIII-2

I've tried my absolute hardest not to make too many comparisons between Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Pokemon what with Final Fantasy's new gameplay mechanic revolving around catching monsters and using them in battle, but my will is only so strong. There will be a total of about 150 different monsters to recruit to do your bidding in the game. The process, from what I can gather from the trailer, appears to be very similar to other pocket monster games.

Weaken it enough and jam it into a crystal. Makes complete sense!

See for yourselves below.

We’ve also got a new batch of screens for you all showcasing off some of the newer characters, and Serah’s Ultima Bow. There’s also even more cactuars and some jerk who calls himself Captain Cryptic. And because we know there are some of you comparison junkies out there, I’ve even included both the Xbox and PS3 screenshots for a few of these. See if you can spot the differences! (Hint: There’s really not that much different).

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is scheduled for release on January 31, 2012 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

What say you, gamers? Gotta catch ’em all?
