Although Laurel Lance was unfortunately killed off back in Arrow season 4, we soon got a nice consolation prize when Katie Cassidy returned as the Black Canary’s Earth-2 doppelganger, Black Siren. Originally having appeared over on The Flash, she eventually made her way over to Star City to play on the emotions of Oliver Queen and the rest of the team.
To no viewer’s surprise, but to the lament of our heroes, she decided to continue embracing the dark side by siding with Prometheus. Still, that didn’t stop Oliver from seeing what little good may be left in her, hoping there’s some chance that she can be redeemed.
So, with Cassidy once again on board as a series regular for season 6, that obviously opens the floodgates for new storytelling possibilities. And despite the fact that we’ve seen her continue to fight beside the likes of Cayden James, we have seen a few glimmers of hope in recent interactions Siren has had with her not-dad, Quentin Lance.
Speaking of which, a new video shot by Canadagraphs has surfaced on YouTube, in which we can see bad Laurel following Quentin through the streets. Whether she’s on assignment or doing so for personal reasons remains to be seen, but showing her dressed in civilian attire makes one recall some of Stephen Amell’s words from earlier this year (via ComicBook.com):
“She looks exactly like Laurel Lance, she is Laurel Lance. Laurel Lance is the most famous dead person in Star City, so eventually, at some point, if she is reintroduced into public life, how do we unpack that? I’m excited for that. That’s the dynamic I think could be interesting.”
Color us excited as well. To be honest, learning Black Siren’s backstory is one of the things I’m looking forward to most in season 6, so let’s hope that Marc Guggenheim and company make with some riveting flashbacks before long. Keep in mind that the video above was shot on December 5, so taking the series’ filming schedule into account, odds are that this scene will be included in either episode 12 or 13 of the current season.
Arrow returns with new episodes on Thursday, January 18 on The CW.
