Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who will return to Westeros in two short weeks as the Mother of Dragons and one-handed Kingslayer, respectively, have dropped fresh hints regarding Game of Thrones season 6.
Specifically, Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) touched base on the status of their two stricken characters. When the credits rolled on season 5, Daenerys and Drogon were cast astray after escaping Meereen, only for the would-be queen to fall into the hands of a Dothraki tribe. Jaime, meanwhile, flocked to his sister’s side as the Faith Militant tightened its grip on King’s Landing and everyone therein.
Both actors spoke about Game of Thrones season 6 during this weekend’s premiere event, where Clarke offered some insight into the dangers that await Daenerys going into the new season.
“Who gets covered in gold anymore? We set them on fire and we do all these other things, but I need to see someone else covered in gold. You’re going to see a little bit more of who she really is.”
That’s Essos largely covered, but what about Westeros? With an army of White Walkers marching toward the Wall, one would imagine the Seven Kingdoms would be up in arms to defend the undead menace. But instead, it’s the religious uprising that has brought King’s Landing to knees. According to Coster-Waldau, “the whole power structure in King’s Landing has changed because of the Faith Militant, the religious uprising,”
HBO’s season 6 premiere, bearing the title “The Red Woman,” will herald the return of Game of Thrones for another 10-episode journey on Sunday, April 24. That’s in less than a fortnight, and you can get a taster of all the horrors to come via last week’s official first clip – and yes, it’s light on spoilers.
