A Link To The Past And Majora’s Mask In Remake Rivalry

The greatest of games thankfully never die with the console that they debut on, and The Legend of Zelda franchise has become a testament to this. The greatest of games thankfully never die with the console that they debut on, and The Legend of Zelda franchise has become a testament to this. Since The Ocarina of Time was remade for the Nintendo 3DS, fans have been wondering what the next title to be revisited will be. However, it appears that Shigeru Miyamoto himself is almost as unsure as the rest of us.

Talking to IGN, Miyamoto said:

“We haven’t quite decided yet, whether we’re going to do A Link to the Past, because there’s also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask. This is something we’ve certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we’re going to go.”

He then suggests that this uncertainty may have been heightened by Nintendo‘s dual responsibility of managing multiple consoles, as well as giving a potential tease that Link may be headed to the Wii U in the future:

“We have so many goals right now. We’re always looking at expanding our audience and giving people the opportunity to get their hands on 3DS and see what kind of fun gaming experiences they can have. And now, we’re also tasked with pushing the Wii U. So we have lots of good opportunities in terms of thinking about which Zelda game is going to be best for which purpose.”

Majora’s Mask is one of those titles I struggle to look back at without being overwhelmed by nostalgia, but surely I can’t be the only one that thinks it would lend itself rather well to a second screen.
