‘Yellowstone’ stars have thoughts on rumors the series could be on its last legs

At this point we're wondering if the rest of season five will even get made.

Tensions have allegedly been running high on the set of beloved cowboy drama Yellowstone‘s fifth season due to rumored disagreements between star Kevin Costner and the show’s producers. The supporting cast has started to comment on the rumors one by one, with Lainey Wilson and Piper Perabo now joining the conversations.

Speaking to ET about the possibility of Yellowstone ending with the upcoming episodes, Wilson — whose character Abby was just introduced in the first half of season five — says she hasn’t heard anything but, whatever happens, she would love to tag along for the ride.

Whether in season five or later, Wilson believes in creator Taylor Sheridan’s ability to give Yellowstone a proper farewell. “I have a feeling they’re going to end it the right way, and there’s gonna be more of it,” the actress and singer shared.

“Don’t believe everything you hear,” Perabo cautioned when asked about Costner and Sheridan’s alleged spat, calling the veteran actor “amazing,” and “inspiring to be around.” Perabo plays environmental activist Summer since the show’s fourth season, consequently butting heads with Costner’s John Dutton, the owner of the Yellowstone ranch, before the two eventually become romantically involved.

According to Matthew Belloni, who first reported on the on-set tensions, and later Deadline, Costner was adamant on shooting the remaining episodes of season five in just one week in order to focus on Horizon, an upcoming movie that he’s both directing and starring in. With neither party willing to budge, the fight “has been playing out for the past few months now behind the scenes,” Belloni told ET.

Deadline also reported that Yellowstone‘s network Paramount is turning their attention towards a spin-off possibly starring Matthew McConaughey, having no intention of extending the Western drama beyond its fifth season.

All rumors have been denied by both Paramount and Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer. “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come,” the network told Deadline, while Singer told ET that the actor “is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

Part two of season five was initially scheduled to air during summer of 2023, but considering filming hasn’t even started yet, the crew might not make the deadline.
