‘Captain America 4’ looks set to feature an MCU return fans have been waiting 15 years for

New world order, but some old world faces.

Captain America: New World Order includes a number of eyebrow-raising additions to the cast, with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson being joined by Shira Haas as perhaps the most controversial hero to enter the MCU to date and Harrison Ford as a recast Thunderbolt Ross. That character, of course, was originally played by the late William Hurt, a role he debuted in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

In a surprise twist, it just so happens that someone else from that movie may finally be making their own franchise return in the fourth Cap movie, according to the latest intel. Without photographic evidence this is still very much a rumor, but Instagram account atlanta_filming — which has been sharing the latest from the set of New World Order following its recent production start — is claiming that none other than Liv Tyler will feature in the film, making her long-awaited second appearance as Betty Ross.

As the love interest to Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner, Betty has been a no-show in the MCU for a full 15 years, excluding What If…? — season 1’s retelling of TIH which saw Ruffalo voice the Green Goliath opposite actress Stephanie Panisello in Tyler’s place. Fans have always been curious to see Betty back in live-action, though, as she’s ripe for a gamma-irradiated alter ego of her own, perhaps Harpy or Red She-Hulk.

It took a while there, then, but it seems like The Incredible Hulk is fully being re-embraced as part of MCU canon. Don’t forget that Tim Roth just came back as Abomination in She-Hulk and, more notably, Tim Blake Nelson is likewise turning up in Cap 4 as the Leader. Whether Liv Tyler really will live another day as Betty Ross, however, we’ll have to wait and see.

Captain America: New World Order is coming on May 3, 2024.
