What is the TikTok Vote Tracker? Answered and explained

News about a TikTok vote tracker became public information as early as last month.

TikTok users can now easily track their state representative vote on the proposed ban of the popular platform with a new website.

As previously reported, government officials are attempting to restrict TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, because they fear social media users’ sensitive data would be shared with the Chinese government. To date, news outlets reported that over 30 states had banned TikTok.

On March 29, TikTok user @designertom informed his followers about a tracker displaying the potential vote a state rep would have placed if a ban occurred. This detector, named “TikTok vote tracker,” can be found by going to the website tiktokvotetracker.com

Once on the platform, an individual would have to search for their specific state representative. After finding that state and clicking on the option, a list of representatives and their votes would appear on one’s screen. The social media user said while instructing his followers,

“This lets you track how your state [representatives] vote on the TikTok ban right now that’s called The Restrict Act. But that’s likely to change in name and get reintroduced in the next couple of months. That would get updated if that happens. All you have to do is go to TikTokvotetracker.com scroll down to the state you belong to. You’ll get a list of House and Senate state [representatives] and how they voted if does come to a vote.”

Further in the video, @designertom mentioned the harmful effects the TikTok ban could have on 150 million American users of the app, including those who use the platform for their business. The social media user would wrap up his statements by listing the benefits he gained by using TikTok and telling his followers to take some form of action. Since sharing the upload last month, @designertom has generated over 66,000 views and received over 15,000 likes.

At this time, no additional details about the TikTok vote tracker or the platform’s ban have been released to the general public.
