NY woman allegedly finds her neighbor’s ID where it shouldn’t be. Then she decides to talk to her: ‘a little freaked out’

An upstate New York woman said she found her neighbor’s driver’s license near her garage despite living in a rural, wooded area, then checked her security cameras after wondering how the ID got there. Creator Jenn Blum Rules (@jennblumrules) shared the discovery and subsequent updates in a series of TikTok posts. Her first video, published in August, 2026, drew more than 900,000 views.

“So this is real weird. I’m upstate, and I found my neighbour’s driver’s licence in my yard,” Blum said in the TikTok. She explained that she lives “in the woods in the country” and pointed out that her neighbors do not live particularly close to her home.

That distance prompted Blum to question how the license reached her property. “And why didn’t my security camera pick it up? Did they walk around?” she said. Cameras have created issues elsewhere in the country. In Ohio, a man reportedly heard banging only for a trail camera to appear near his house the next day. He said his neighbor put it there.

Blum suggested that the ID might have fallen from her neighbor’s pocket.

While acknowledging her neighbor may have dropped her ID, Blum also wondered whether the neighbor could have been checking on the property during recent power outages. Still, Blum said the discovery made her uncomfortable.
“Really weird? Guys, I’m a little freaked out,” she said.

Blum then asked viewers how she should return the license. She considered leaving it on the neighbor’s porch without saying anything but ultimately decided to contact her.

In a follow-up TikTok, Blum said she texted her neighbor about the driver’s license and received a response. According to Blum, the neighbor acknowledged that she had recently realized she no longer had the license and asked whether she could retrieve it. Blum said the response did not explain how the ID ended up at her home, so she met her neighbor at the end of the driveway.

According to Blum’s account, her neighbor thanked her for finding the license but said she had no idea how it ended up near Blum’s garage. Blum said the neighbor maintained that she had never been in Blum’s yard and did not know when she lost the ID.

Blum also said her neighbor suggested the license might have fallen out of her pocket. She said the neighbor denied that anyone had broken into her car, “so I gave it back,” Blum said. Blum acknowledged that she did not have an explanation for what happened. She also said her neighbor changed the subject to the driveway during their conversation.

In a later update, Blum clarified that she did not think her neighbor had done anything “weird.” However, she said she still couldn’t explain how the driver’s license ended up on her property when her neighbor said she had not been there.

The incident also prompted Blum to reconsider her home’s security-camera coverage. Since she believed the existing camera setup had blind spots, she said she purchased another camera.
