It’s been a mixed weekend for old-school DCEU fans as, while they were treated to Zack Snyder’s SnyderCon event, at which Ben Affleck make a surprise appearance, the celebration of the SnyderVerse didn’t lead to the much-ballyhooed rumor that Netflix was reviving the now-replaced universe. On the other hand, the fact that the SnyderVerse isn’t receiving its own Superman-like resurrection isn’t being seen as a bad thing by everyone after Snyder’s shocking revelations on his original Wonder Woman plans.
At the Full Circle event, the Man of Steel director dropped the bombshell that he initially intended to reveal that the pantheon of Greek gods were actually Kryptonians, meaning that Diana Prince herself is part of Superman’s species. Needless to say, this didn’t come to pass, with Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman going down a much more comics-accurate route, but the mere thought of this concept becoming a reality is enough to cause certain fans to break out in a cold sweat.
The main problem folks seem to have with this retconned origins is that it reduces Wonder Woman’s significance as her own distinct character.
It’s important for each member of DC’s Trinity to be unique.
Wondy’s no stranger to deflecting controversial takes from movie directors, though. Just see Joss Whedon’s much-maligned Wonder Woman script (that might’ve starred Evangeline Lilly).
Even Snyder die-hards are confused how this makes sense when the man’s own Man of Steel prequel comic contradicts his claims.
The fact this comes so soon after Snyder confirmed he was planning for Lois Lane and Bruce Wayne to get together only makes it that much more offensive.
This is yet more proof for Snyder antis that James Gunn is the future.
Hear that tearing sound? That’s James Gunn ripping up his script for the Paradise Lost TV series that reveals Diana is Batman’s long-lost sister…
