Dropping so much fresh content on a weekly basis can often end up hurting Netflix in the long run, with the announcement of a release date for season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer no doubt reminding a lot of people that the show existed in the first place.
That’s not to say it was underwhelming or disappointing, though, when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Buoyed by solid reviews, the episodic remake of the underrated legal thriller that helped kick-start the McConaissance was a huge smash hit for the streaming service following its arrival in May of last year.
Spending six weeks as one of the Top 10 most-watched original TV shows on the platform’s global charts, The Lincoln Lawyer ended up accruing upwards of 260 million viewing hours in the first four weeks it was available. Needless to say, the company didn’t waste any time in making a renewal public knowledge, with the confirmation of season 2 coming less than three weeks after its debut.
However, while The Lincoln Lawyer is coming back to screens sooner rather than later, it’s doing so in a fashion that’s destined to piss off users to no end. That’s right; the first half will premiere on July 6, with the remaining five episodes landing on August 3. The reasons for Netflix splitting so many shows in half is no doubt due entirely to the desire to get two bites of the cherry in terms of viewership, but it’s incredibly frustrating nonetheless, and you can guarantee the negative reactions to the news will be coming thick and fast.
