Let’s face it, the comic book adaptation realm is very much in need of a shakeup right now. As beloved as so many Marvel and DC characters are to generations upon generations of fans, we can only take so many third-act CGI fights and derivative stakes before getting a bit restless.
So when James Gunn was revealed as one of the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, many a comic book movie fan (those that don’t dress in vantablack cloaks and rhythmically chant “Restore the SnyderVerse,” anyway), quickly dubbed it as some of the best news in recent years, and Gunn didn’t waste any time in letting us know that his approach to comic book adaptations would aim to rock the flock like never before.
Indeed, his commitment to storytelling above all else is groundbreaking enough, but kicking off the new DC Universe with Creature Commandos? Well, it’s a bold strategy, and we couldn’t be happier for it.
We know who’s going to be loaning their voices to the animated series, including MCU stars David Harbour and Maria Bakalova, but we haven’t heard a whole awful lot on Creature Commandos since then. Luckily, Gunn himself, apparently willing to softly break his vow to avoid Twitter’s update-hungry DC fandom, was happy to let us know exactly how the Gods and Monsters opener is doing.
There you have it, folks; the man who wrote all seven episodes of Creature Commandos has confidently told us that Creature Commandos is looking nothing short of wonderful. It sounds like business as usual for the Peacemaker mastermind, of course, but any update on DC’s future is a welcome one.
Creature Commandos will release to Max sometime in 2024.
