An awful action comedy wisely yanked from theaters and sold to Netflix buddies up on 2 rival streaming services

It almost definitely would have bombed.

As anyone with a Netflix subscription will be able to agree with, the streaming service has a frustrating habit of either producing or acquiring star-studded blockbusters that could generously be deemed as entirely forgettable. The Man from Toronto is easily one of the worst offenders, so much so that it’s been almost entirely erased from memory already.

Sony initially footed the bill for the odd couple caper starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, with a theatrical release date of November 2020 locked in. Of course, the pandemic came along and torpedoed that particular idea, and after being pulled from the calendar altogether it was eventually sold off to Netflix in April of 2020, before being added to the content library in June.

It’s only been a year since The Man from Toronto was unleashed onto devices everywhere, but can anybody out there remember one single thing about it? Almost definitely not, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 23 percent doing a great job of underlining just how inessential and monotonous it was. Ironically, the film has made a comeback on-demand this week on two different platforms, but neither of them are the one that actually bought the rights in the first place.

Per FlixPatrol, The Man from Toronto has cracked the Top 10 in a combined total of 14 countries split across iTunes and Google Play customers, which is pretty funny when you consider it’s long since been lost to the abyss of the Netflix algorithm. There was even talk of a sequel for a while, but thankfully it didn’t even come close to fruition.
