It’s been almost four months since Shadow and Bone‘s second season dropped on Netflix, and just as long with no word about its renewal. Fans are anxious to see the fantasy series return for a third season, and at this point, anything can be taken for a sign that it will happen.
When the Emmy Awards nominations list hit the internet, Grishaverse fans were surprised to find their favorite show in the race for Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode. Despite how much viewers might like the adaptation, they’re keenly aware of its limitations, so to see it nominated for a major award came as quite a shock. And of course, to desperate fans, this achievement is being interpreted as a sign that the fight against the axing machine that is Netflix is not totally lost yet.
Can Netflix confidently axe an Emmy-nominated series after only two seasons? It can, the platform has shown no empathy to its subscribers in the past few months, canceling almost everything under the sun that portrays elements of fantasy. But whether or not it will do the same with Shadow and Bone remains to be determined.
After so long with no information from Netflix, tensions are high in the Grishaverse fandom, so much so that opinions about the much-desired season three are constantly oscillating. Not too long ago, a Father’s Day tweet sent fans into a state of euphoria before reality came crashing down again.
Considering the network’s wild decisions lately, it’s best for Shadow and Bone enthusiasts not to put their faith behind this Emmy nomination. Netflix isn’t easily swayed by critical success.
