Despite the writers’ strike looming in the background and mandating the scripts would need to be filmed as written, things seemed to be going as well as could be expected for season 2 of The Sandman.
The second run of the blockbuster Neil Gaiman adaptation kicked off principal photography on its sophomore batch of episodes a little over two weeks ago, with set photos revealing the addition of Pose star Indya Moore to the ensemble, while casting calls for Thor, Loki, and Odin being sent out hinted that Asgard was the next stop for the show to begin incorporating even more deities.
Of course, now that actors have downed tools and joined the picket lines, the entirety of the industry is poised to grind to a halt. Wasting absolutely no time at all, from almost the second the latest round of striking began, Gaiman confirmed in a statement that The Sandman had ceased all operations beginning immediately.
“SAG-AFTRA strike is on. Sandman has stopped shooting completely, along with everything else that was squeaking by without writers. I hope that the AMPTP sees reason and gets back to the table with the actors and the writers. I have no reason at this point to think they will see reason.”
Having already endured an agonizing four-month wait for The Sandman to be renewed in the first place, one sliver of good news is that fans have gotten used to the acclaimed fantasy taking its sweet time to do anything, because it’s going to be a long time before season 2 lands on Netflix in its completed glory.
