Last night Harmonix announced they would once again be independent from Viacom, a global media conglomerate. Then who gets the right to Rock Band? As of now it is said Harmonix will keep intellectual property rights to its two main franchises: Rock Band and Dance Central. This gives Harmonix the ability to make future installments with no problems.

Rock Band and Dance Central will also continue to receive its coveted DLC without issue. Harmonix will continue its relationships with EA, Mad Catz and Microsoft. Before anything is misconceived, there was no fierce legal battles that caused Harmonix to split from Viacom. Simply put, they had established themselves enough that they didn’t need help from larger companies anymore.
