‘They asked me for my license plate’: Confused Donald Trump insists bringing your license plate to the voting booth is mandatory

Hey, big guy. Sun's gettin' real low...

We all know how to vote, right? You drive down to the polling place with your special screwdriver, crouch down in front of your vehicle, unscrew your license plate, stroll inside, and present it to the officials. Oh, wait – that’s completely insane.

Yet, incredibly, this is apparently how the President of the United States believes regular Americans go to the polls. This is just the latest malformed delusion to trickle out of Donald Trump‘s increasingly addled brain, coming while he was arguing why his plan to outlaw mail-in ballots must become law.

Well, I say “his plan”, but it’s Vladimir Putin’s plan, as he told Trump during their recent meeting that ”Your election was rigged because you have mail-in voting. … It’s impossible to have mail-in voting and have honest elections.” Trump instantly decided he was going to make that the law, doubtless leaving a giggling Putin whispering to his bodyguards, “oh my god, he’s actually going to do it”.

Anyhow, such an upending of voting rights surely comes from a firm grounding in American democracy and voting procedure. Or maybe not, as Trump appears to believe you need to present your license plate to officials before being allowed into the voting booth:

“When you go to a voting booth, and you do it the right way, and you go to a state that runs it properly, you go in — they even asked me, they asked me for my license plate. I said, ‘I don’t know if I have it.’ They said, ‘Sir, you have to have it.’ I was very impressed actually.”

Sundowning hour

We could give him the benefit of the doubt and conclude that this confused old man is actually talking about a driving license rather than a license plate, but this is the kind of bizarre gaffe that’d have MAGA demanding blood if Joe Biden had made it.

But even as Trump’s brain collapses like a poorly made soufflé, MAGA is continuing to insist that all’s well. After all, the President is a stable genius with a mind as sharp as a tack, not the rapidly dementing free-associating shark-and-Hannibal-Lecter-obsessed weirdo he very much appears to be. Because if that were the case, oh boy we’d be in trouble!
