‘Pass some gun laws!’: House erupts into chaos over Charlie Kirk as Democrats and Republicans blame each other for his death

It's what he would have wanted.

Whether you loved or hated him, Charlie Kirk was a divisive figure. Provoking people into emotional political arguments was his business and, as it turned out, business was extremely lucrative. Now Kirk is dead. shot by a mystery sniper, and in an appropriate twist, his murder is dividing America than ever.

For example, let’s take a peek into the House of Representatives, where a moment of silence for Kirk rapidly devolved into an ugly shouting match.

Mike Johnson led the tribute by asking the House to “Please rise for a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family”. Those present duly obliged. Then Lauren Boebert piped up, saying there should be a spoken prayer, arguing that “silent prayers get silent results”.

Some Democrats jeered the suggestion, pointing out that a school shooting took place in Colorado on Wednesday that afternoon, an event Boebert appeared to be ignoring. Boebert sniffily shot back that she was just about to pay tribute to that too, actually!

Then things really went nuts. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican representative, who was Kirk’s director of Hispanic engagement at Turning Point USA, stood up and yelled an accusatory comment at Democrats, shouting, “You caused this!”. Democrats erupted in anger, with gun violence prevention task force member Jahana Hayes yelling back a pointed “Pass some gun laws!”

Two furious people yelling at each other about gun control? What better tribute to Kirk could there have been?

MAGA has never been more vengeful than today

Luna went on to make her feelings quite clear on social media, saying:

This is surely just a taste of what’s coming for America in the next few days. Conservatives are mad as hell and desperate for someone to blame. Right now, cops don’t have a suspect, but there being no evidence hasn’t stopped Trump from pinning the murder on a crazed liberal. If the killer isn’t caught, expect conspiracies to erupt and scapegoats sought. If the actual killer is arrested, they’ll be accused of being on the left regardless of the facts.

Basically, buckle in, because an already divided country is about to split in two, and there’s no sign of it ever reforming.
