Theo Von tells DHS his thoughts on immigration are a lot more ‘nuanced’ after being used in ‘banger’ deportation video

A controversial video made by Theo Von earlier this year has come back to haunt him.

Theo Von has taken issue with use of his image in an edit posted by the Department of Homeland Security (because apparently the post banger edits now). The video in question seems to be simultaneously mocking and celebrating the deportation of migrants.

The video in question begins with Von who is speaking into a phone camera, he can be heard saying, “heard you got deported dude,” before adding, rather bluntly, “bye.” What follows is a montage of immigrants being deported along with text that brags “2 million in 250 days.” Proudly showing all the people Trump has been dehumanising for the past several months.

The popular comedian and podcaster made a post to X calling out the official DHS page and asking them to take the clip down claiming “I didn’t approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check.” The podcaster also requested the DHS refrain from using his image, telling them, “please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos.”

The video has since been taken down by the DHS which is definitely for the best. But if you’re curious it has been re-posted by others online so you can watch it here.

What is Theo Von’s stance on immigration?

While it’s great to see Von taking a stand, many pointed out that he did make those comments towards someone who supposedly got deported. “But you did, in fact, say what’s in that video.” One person wrote one X, adding, “And you DID, in fact, endorse Trump basically. And you DID, in fact, attend his inauguration.”

Another individual shared a photo of Von at the president’s inauguration despite Trump spending “months campaigning for this exact policy on illegal immigration.”

Von’s political stance has often been contentious, although many label him moderate, he has certainly played a part in giving Trump a platform to voice his politics. Can we really blame the DHS for assuming that Theo Von would be cool with being used in such an edit?

The podcaster and comedian clarified that “When it comes to immigration my thoughts and heart are alot more nuanced than this video allows.” While he may support Trump on some issues it seems he has drawn the line at becoming the face of the president’s deportation campaign. Whether he actually disagrees with Trump’s policies or just doesn’t want the public association isn’t entirely clear.

Either way, DHS eventually took the video down, either because of Theo Von and his post to X or because someone with brain cells realized that a government department shouldn’t be posting cringe TikTok-style edits to an official account like that, (it’s not very professional).
