A school shooting plot was stopped in Kennewick, Washington, after a 14-year-old freshman at Kamiakin High School essentially revealed his intentions on TikTok, posting a color-coded map of the school that tipped off the FBI.
This all came to a head when authorities executed a search warrant and found a truly shocking amount of evidence, including 24 guns locked inside safes, multiple documents referencing mass shootings, and a much more detailed version of the color-coded map.
The whole thing kicked off when someone living in Florida saw the TikTok post, which included a color-coded map of Kamiakin High School. The map had a legend with terms like “Targets,” “Potential Targets,” “Gear Up,” and “Exit.” The person immediately alerted the FBI, which is exactly what you should do in a situation like this. According to Crime Online, the FBI contacted the Kennewick Police Department after narrowing down the location of the post, and from there, officers used cell phone data to figure out that the freshman at the school was the one behind the terrifying post.
When police searched the teen’s Benton County home, the scale of the plan became terrifyingly clear. They found 24 guns inside safes, and documents, including a self-described “manifesto,” that referenced school shootings. The color-coded map they found at the house was even more detailed than the one posted on TikTok. It had specific notes like “10:47 – 11:25 AM peak students,” and even “could shoot through windows,” with a line pointing right at the school library. I mean, the detail here is just chilling.
Potential school shooter detained before he could commit the act
Beyond the maps and weapons, investigators recovered a video from September 19 showing the teen actually walking around Kamiakin High School, discussing the library’s structure and how he could, in fact, “shoot through the glass windows.” His internet search history backed up this specific interest, showing he had been researching how bullets interact with glass and looking for tactical gear. It all points to a plot that was getting seriously close to being put into action.
The recovered “manifesto” offers a deeply unsettling look into the teen’s mindset. In it, he described how he was able to crack the codes for the gun safes—the same ones holding the 24 guns. The beginning of the document is a bizarre and chilling message that reveals his knowledge of the potential public reaction:
“Hey, you found my manifesto I am sure you will all be laughing at me by the time you figure out who I am and why I did what I did, especially you people on WPD I wonder if you’ll find my accounts haha, I’m sure my discord and other social media will be released nearly instantly after the massacre.”
He even went on to say that he’d “sent close friends photos of me that will be considered rare or unreleased by the time my plan goes through,” and that he might “even record the attack and send it to a select few.” This is heavy stuff, and it’s a good thing someone saw the initial TikTok and took action; otherwise, we could have seen another school shooting.
The police also discovered that the teen had recently been with friends while displaying a Glock pistol that was later found to be missing from the safes. Although the friends initially denied knowing anything about the plan, one of their parents found messages proving that another friend had taken the Glock to hide it, and it was ultimately found near the Kennewick mall.
That friend is now facing charges for making false statements and possession of a firearm, showing the fallout extends beyond the main suspect. The 14-year-old facing attempted murder and other charges has his bail set at a massive $1 million.
Due to state law, the teen couldn’t be charged as an adult because the charges were not for first- or second-degree murder, meaning the maximum sentence he faces is detention in a juvenile facility until he turns 21.
