Over the past month, Donald Trump has shown Americans that he still fully embraces MAGA. Unfortunately, that “A” no longer stands for America, but Argentina.
The South American country is currently in turmoil thanks to the failed economic policies of Trump’s best bud, Javier Milei, which have resulted in catastrophic recession, soaring poverty rates (over 50%), and mass social unrest.
A sharp sell-off of the Argentine peso sparked capital flight amid fears of another default on $4.8 billion in IMF payments due in 2026. Investor confidence is now at zero, and the nation has exhausted much of its borrowing capacity. Great work, Javier!
Trump’s response was to swoop in and save Milei with your tax dollars: a now $40 billion bailout of Argentina’s central bank in early October and U.S. Treasury purchases of Argentine pesos to stabilize the plummeting currency. Farmers are especially upset about this, as Argentina is sucking up American money while selling soybeans to China, cutting domestic farming’s legs out from under it.
Trump was questioned about his bailout, but said it had to be done as Argentina is “dying”:

In a typically condescending response to a female reporter, he explained:
“Look, Argentina is fighting for its life, young lady. You don’t know anything about it. They’re fighting for their life. Nothing’s benefiting Argentina. They’re fighting for their life. You understand what that means?
They have no money, they have no anything, they’re fighting so hard to survive. If I can help them survive in a free world… I happen to like the President of Argentina, I think he’s trying to do the best he can. They’re dying. Alright? They’re dying.”
Argentina First!
Wow, sounds pretty serious, Mr President! But, as many indignant farmers have pointed out, domestic farming is also facing annihilation as farmers face financial ruin from Trump’s tariffs, and there’s no bailout for them in sight.
Of course, it goes without saying that the reason Argentina is “dying” is primarily because of Milei’s disastrous presidency. Perhaps Trump sees in Milei the ghost of Christmas future, knowing that the economic collapse Argentina is currently undergoing is set to be repeated on a gigantic scale in the United States sometime over the next six months?
After all, if Milei were forcefully ejected from power when his economy dies, Trump might be fearful Americans will do the same when his financial pigeons come home to roost.
