Woman claims Breyers ice cream ‘tastes so terrible’ with metallic flavor. Then she checks the package

A TikTok user named Trisha Fenimore recently went viral after she bought what she thought was Breyers ice cream. She noticed it tasted horrible and then found out the container didn’t say “ice cream” anywhere on it. This discovery sparked a bigger conversation about what people are actually buying at grocery stores.

According to Bro Bible, Fenimore made a video showing two Breyers packages. She asked viewers if they knew what happened to Breyers ice cream and why it’s not ice cream anymore. The video has gotten over 2 million views on TikTok so far. In the video, Fenimore said she and her husband thought the product “tastes so terrible.” 

When they looked at the packaging more closely, they realized it never said “ice cream” on it. She said the flavor was “metallic-y” and that eating it left “a film all around my mouth and on my tongue.” She asked what she was actually eating because it definitely wasn’t ice cream.

Breyers sells two different types of products with very different ingredients

If you’ve noticed something different about Breyers, you’re not wrong. Breyers actually sells two separate product lines. They have regular ice cream and something else called “frozen dairy dessert.” This isn’t the first time people have been shocked by deceptive product claims.

This difference is important because the FDA has strict rules about what can be called “ice cream.” Some classic Breyers flavors like Homemade Vanilla, Chocolate, and Natural Strawberry meet these standards and are labeled as ice cream. 

But the “frozen dairy desserts” are completely different. Unilever, which owns Breyers, has been selling these lower-calorie, lower-fat options for at least ten years. These desserts are made to be smoother.

Frozen dairy desserts are made with fresh milk, cream and sugar but are not light enough to be called light ice cream nor have enough fat to be called ice cream. That’s why they get put in a different category. People have strong feelings about frozen treats, similar to a British girl’s viral ice cream rant.

The dessert version has gums and stabilizers that change the texture and fat content. Just because something has these ingredients doesn’t mean it can’t be ice cream, though. 

Some Walmart ice cream sandwiches have stabilizers to stop them from melting, but still count as real ice cream legally. People online are split on this issue. Some are angry and say capitalism has ruined American food. Others say this labeling has been around for 15 years, and people are just now noticing it.
