Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino looks on during a press conference at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal on January 22, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bovino, joined by ICE Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Marcos Charles, addressed ongoing immigration enforcement operations in the state. The Trump administration has sent a reported 3,000 federal plus federal agents into the area, with more on the way, as they make a push to arrest undocumented immigrants in the region. ICE commander Greg Bovino humiliated by Trump, social media blocked, marked for early retirement

Looks like they've found their fall guy.

We sincerely hope Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino didn’t see this coming. Just a day ago, he was gleefully justifying his men’s street execution of innocent ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot repeatedly after coming to the aid of a woman who’d been pepper-sprayed.

Trump’s MAGA goons launched into a familiar playbook before Pretti’s body was cold, smearing the murdered man as a bloodthirsty domestic terrorist who was about to open fire on some poor lil’ ICE agents. The only problem was that their lies were (once again) directly contradicted by video evidence from multiple angles.

Worse, you couldn’t have picked a more sympathetic victim. Pretti had devoted his life to caring for injured veterans, and the administration’s attempt to say he had it coming for legally carrying a firearm has resulted in a catastrophic backlash from the Republican base.

The so-far-unidentified ICE goon who pulled the trigger must face legal consequences, but, for now, Bovino is being set up to take the fall.

Though not officially confirmed, multiple sources confidently report that Bovino is being thrown out of Minnesota in disgrace, that access to his Department of Homeland Security social media accounts have been blocked, and that he’ll be shuffled into an early and humiliating retirement at the relatively young age of 55.

This is quite the fall for a guy who’s spent the last few weeks strutting around in what appears to be SS cosplay, hurling tear gas grenades at protesters, and gleefully overseeing the largest attack on American citizens’ constitutional rights in decades.

Bovino’s direct boss, Kristi Noem, has been in lockstep with her subordinate throughout the last few weeks. This means it’s safe to assume that the order to strip Bovino of his job came directly from Trump himself.

ICE gives Trump cold feet

Only a fool would presume to know what’s going on in Trump’s rats nest of a brain right now, but it certainly appears that he’s getting serious cold feet about the ICE thugs terrorizing ordinary Americans in his name.

We doubt he cares too much about individuals being detained, brutalized, and shot in the head, but he definitely cares about his own personal popularity, which is cratering after nightly footage of heavily armored and masked ICE goons waging war against the American people dominates the news.

But the buck cannot stop with Bovino. Kristi Noem must also face the music for her role in the ongoing atrocities in Minneapolis, and, just as Governor Tim Walz has promised, we must see prosecutions of individual ICE agents for the heinous crimes they’ve committed on the streets of Minneapolis.
