Donald Trump tells America how he is using the military – to fix his phone’s autocorrect

This is what the U.S. army has been reduced to?

President Donald Trump made a surprising admission during a military mothers event at the White House. While honoring military families ahead of Mother’s Day, he revealed that his phone had been repeatedly changing his wife’s name from “Melania” to “Melody” whenever he typed it.

According to the Irish Star,  Trump said the autocorrect error had been happening consistently, leading to embarrassing posts on social media. He admitted that he often sends out posts so quickly that he does not proofread them before they go live, which meant the wrong name ended up being published multiple times.

“Every time I wrote ‘Melania,’ it would correct to ‘Melody,'” he said during his remarks. He noted that he would write things like “Melania is fantastic” or “Happy Mother’s Day, Melania,” only to have the software swap the name. He said the errors resulted in him getting “decimated” in the media and online, with critics mocking him for appearing not to know his own wife’s name.

Trump’s admission that the military fixed his autocorrect drew sharp criticism online

Trump revealed that the issue was eventually resolved, and he explicitly said that the military fixed the autocorrect problem for him. While he seemed to find the situation somewhat funny, the admission that he used military resources to fix a personal smartphone setting did not go over well with many people watching. This is not the first time Trump has faced scrutiny over his use of government resources for personal matters.

The online response was quick and critical. Many people questioned why the military needed to be involved in something as minor as a phone setting. One person wrote, “He has the military fixing autocorrect for him? Because he can’t be bothered to proofread Melania’s name? What a waste of our money.” Another said, “So he had the military turn off his autocorrect. So the s— we see now is definitely his doing, no more blaming his illiteracy on autocorrect.”

Some critics also pointed out that Trump may have gotten the autocorrect error wrong altogether. Several people argued that the phone was likely changing the name to “Melanie,” not “Melody” as he claimed. “He can’t even remember it was ‘Melanie,’ not ‘Melody,'” one person wrote. Others noted that he could have simply asked a family member to help adjust the phone settings rather than turning to the military for something so straightforward.

The event also included remarks from First Lady Melania Trump, who spoke about the sacrifices of military families, particularly those affected by the ongoing war in Iran. She shared her experience from a visit to Dover Air Force Base in March, where she attended a dignified transfer ceremony for fallen service members from the 103rd Sustainment Command.

She said that “words cannot comfort the all-consuming grief that family members, and mothers in particular, experience.” The day before the Mother’s Day event, Trump gave a detailed account in the Oval Office of Iranian protesters being shot by snipers, during a meeting attended by children and athletes.

According to The Independent, he described the violence in direct terms, telling the group that protesters were being hit “right between the eyes.” The meeting drew attention not only for its graphic content but also for the fact that children were present in the room when these details were shared.

Trump has also been making waves with his recent claims about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, drawing further criticism over how he discusses the ongoing conflict. Between the autocorrect story and the broader Iran situation, Trump’s recent days have kept public attention firmly on his words and actions both online and in the briefing room.
