A Minnesota woman claims she moved to Arizona and, while trying to make some new friends, almost accidentally signed up to what she describes as a cult.
In a video posted to her TikTok, user SaraphineStanier says that when she moved to Arizona, she only knew two people, both men. She wanted to find some girl friends and signed up to Bumble BFF, hoping to find some like-minded women to hang out with, saying “I’ve heard such great things about Bumble BFF!”
Soon after signing up she met a girl with similar interests and they “vibed” after a brief chat online. She says the girl then invited her on a hiking trip with her friends. She acknowledges that meeting someone for the first time and immediately going on a hiking trip isn’t particularly safe but “I was desperate for friends.”
Then she arrived at the trailhead, met her new hiking buddies, and thought something may be amiss:
“They were all wearing like, white cloth linen. Like, the kind of linen you’d wear in Europe, Portugal, Spain. I don’t even know how to describe it. Linen pants and linen shirts, like t-shirts. But they’re dressed in all white, not wearing workout clothes.”
She explains she thought that maybe this was simply an Arizona girl thing, and she was the one at fault.
“I’m not dumb enough to join a cult by accident!”
Then the hike began. She says it was ominously silent, with no conversation between anyone present. Then they reached the summit and “these girls sat in a circle and began humming”:
“For a second I thought that maybe they were like very spiritual yoga girls. … Then this guy comes up, he’s wearing no shoes and stands in the middle of them and starts reciting some weird f–king thing. He says something about the sun rising and I was floored and scared at the same time.”
Then the girl from Bumble BFF apparently handed her a grapefruit and said, “infuse this with your intentions. As she explains, her intention at that moment was to get out of there as quickly as possible, so she “bolted” down the trail and tried not to trip on a rock. She concluded, “I’m not dumb enough to join a cult by accident!”
She ran down the mountain, reached her car, and drove away at speed. On checking later, she noted that the girl unmatched with her on Bumble BFF. The name or identity of this supposed cult remains a mystery, so we only have her side of the story.
