Taking the bus should be a relatively straightforward affair: you get on at one stop, get off at another, but sometimes bus journeys can become quite chaotic, be it the strange behavior of other passengers or the confusing timetables. For one Brisbane woman on TikTok, a bus journey nearly cost her her job after the driver went “rogue” and took her onto the motorway.
The video was posted by a woman named Ellie, who filmed her concerned and confused reaction as the bus she was on had taken an unexpected detour. Ellie explained in the caption that it was her first day at her new job and that everyone except her had gotten off the bus after one stop: “the bus has now gone rogue,” she claimed, adding that she had 30 minutes to get to work on time.
Ellie claimed that she had looked up the route on Apple Maps and had been informed that the bus would have taken her to where she needed to go. “Why are we not going with Apple Maps darl?” she asked, understandably confused as to where the bus was taking her.
Apple Maps was wrong
Obviously, the information about the bus route was wrong: “Apple Maps mugged me right off,” Ellie wrote in an update. According to her, the bus goes two different routes, and she had been standing on the wrong platform, which led to her ending up being taken the wrong way.
The comments on the TikTok were split; some sympathized with Ellie’s predicament and had maybe even experienced something similar themselves. However, others chastised her for her error. One commenter asked why she had been using Apple Maps in the first place, advising that she “use the bus’s app or their website.”
“Public transport is not for the weak,” wrote one person, “It’ll humble you VERY fast.” Well, it seems Ellie’s experience was about as humbling as it gets. In the caption, she gave a detailed play-by-play of everything that went wrong during her journey, as, unfortunately for her, it didn’t end there.
She claims a driver told her where to go once she’d realized her mistake, only for it to be the wrong stop. After asking another bus driver, who Ellie claims shouted at her, she got off the bus and spotted another bus heading to her destination, only for it to ignore her when she stuck out her arm to stop it.
Ellie’s journey from hell likely only made her first-day nerves at her new job much, much worse. In the end, she arrived at work an hour and a half late, but after explaining what happened, she claims that she wasn’t in any trouble: “My coworkers were chill, loved my live-action replay of events, and welcomed me.”
