Matty Healy — the 1975 frontman — married musician Gabbriette Bechtel on July 18, in Los Angeles.
The couple’s reps told People, that the pair “were married yesterday at a private ceremony in Los Angeles.”
Healy and Bechtel chose Castillo del Lago, a 1926 mansion in the hills above Beachwood Canyon that Madonna once owned. The groom went with black tailoring. The bride wore white, her veil running long behind her. Photographers caught the newlyweds mid-kiss, with Healy tipping her backward.
It was romantic and beautiful. It was also entirely unexpected.
The internet has thoughts, not because the wedding came out of the blue — Healy and Bechtel have been engaged since 2024. No, it’s just that Healy decided to marry not fifteen days after his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift walked down the aisle to exchange vows with Travis Kelce.
Swift married Kelce on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. Running the math might lead you to an unflattering conclusion, and indeed, Swifties have been arriving at it headfirst.
“Matty Healy getting married a FORTNIGHT after Taylor Swift and we’re supposed to act normal about that?” wrote one user on X, referring to the song from Tortured Poets Department alleged to be about Healy and his short-lived fling with Swift.
The timeline of the relationship, the pair’s infatuation with one another, their separation after media scrutiny, not to mention their respective July 2026 weddings makes for a very interesting chain of events.
Taylor Swift and Matty Healy might be the “ultimate final boss of situationships,” according to commentators online.
The facts don’t support a connection between the two weddings
The paper trail pushes back on any theory Swifties might be developing as of now. Healy proposed in June 2024, and the singer’s mom Denise Welch named the month in public back in May. “Matty gets married in July, which we’re very excited about,” she told Tom Hirschsprung’s podcast, per Irvine Times.
Meanwhile, all we had to go on about Taylor’s wedding were rumors until the very weekend she and Travis tied the knot at Madison Square Garden.
Taylor and Matty were first linked in spring 2023, weeks on from the end of her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn. The romance ran about four weeks, and by September that year, each had met the person they would eventually marry.
Healy kept a low profile on Swift’s wedding day. He and Bechtel were photographed out in downtown Los Angeles while the ceremony unfolded in New York.
