New York woman will never wear Old Navy clothes without washing them. She reached into the pocket of her new shorts and almost gags: ‘kind of gross’

A TikTok creator from New York City known as Meeshy said she found a stain and a baby pacifier on a pair of shorts she had just bought from Old Navy, before they had ever been worn by her. Meeshy, who posts under the username @meeshyymeesh, shared the discovery in a video that has drawn attention online. 

She said the shorts appeared to have been worn and returned before being shipped to her as new. In the video, Meeshy said, “Wash your new clothing before you wear it.” She said she had purchased black denim shorts from Old Navy and was excited about them before noticing a problem.

She said in the video, “Okay, I just bought these shorts from Old Navy, tried them on, and I thought these are so f–king cute, but I noticed on the back it had this staining, and I’m like, these are right out of the package, what the f–k?”

In the video, Meeshy pointed to a yellowish-green stain on the back of the shorts, below the right back pocket. She said she then continued trying the shorts on and felt something inside the front pocket. She said, “So I’m, I’m trying them on, I’m doing my thing, right? And I feel something in the pocket.” 

She then pulled out a light blue and white baby pacifier from the pocket and showed it to the camera. She said, “I don’t have children. It was just in the pocket like that.” Clothing-related disputes can spark online outrage, as when a woman says a Miami beach club denied her entry over her clothes. 

Meeshy said the shorts had no tags attached and appeared to have been worn already, despite being shipped to her as a new purchase. She showed the shorts next to a clear plastic shipping bag with a label, which she said confirmed the item had been sent to her directly.

She said, “So these were shipped to me, there’s no tags on them, clearly have been worn… and I’m like this is kind of gross, no? No? Like, I have cats.” In the caption of the video, Meeshy wrote that she initially thought a security sensor had been left on the shorts, but said the issue turned out to be worse. She wrote, “Whose baby is missing their binky ?!” and tagged Old Navy, asking why the company was “shipping out worn and stained clothing.” 

She added that her mother’s first rule of clothes shopping was to “wash ya mf clothes” and said she planned to return the shorts. The video does not show a response from Old Navy, and it is not clear from the video whether the company has commented on Meeshy’s claims. 

Viewers responded to the video in the comments section, with several suggesting the shorts may have been a previous return that was shipped out again. One commenter, who said they had worked in retail, explained why washing new clothes is generally recommended. 

The commenter wrote, “I worked retail and ALWAYS wash your new clothes. When they are shipped from over seas, they spray them with all kinds of chemicals, to kill bugs, to keep them from molding. And obviously also, you never know who tried them on before you.”

Another commenter suggested that washing the shorts would not be enough and that Meeshy should return them instead, writing, “Wash? No. Return!!” Meeshy replied to that comment to confirm she was already returning the item, writing, “they’ve been returned.” Returning items due to unexpected discoveries is not uncommon, such as when a woman visited Victoria’s Secret to return her husband’s gift and was asked about other products she had never seen before. 

A third commenter offered a possible explanation for how the shorts ended up in that condition, pointing to the packaging shown in the video. The commenter wrote, “That’s a returned item being resold again. You can tell by the bag.”
