Now that people are using smart eyewear to record everyday interactions, X users are finally getting a first-person view of what a first date gone completely wrong can actually look like — whether the scenarios are real or staged.
First dates are unpredictable. There’s a real chance that you could be about to have the worst experience of your waking life or meet the love of your life. Recently, the range of what could happen when it goes wrong has veered from a man’s first date being dragged into a bank heist to a man being asked to pay $120 for nails before a first date.
However, we never actually get a glimpse of how these things happened. X user @omoelerinjare1 shared a clip of a man having what appears to be a confrontation with a woman who had just pulled up to the cash register with what looks like a thrift store.
It was obvious there was not going to be second date
As she takes items from her cart to the register, the man says, “You said we weren’t going to be that long in the store.” The woman responds, “We just had to get a couple things.” To which, the man loudly wonders, “We?”
The man then tells her that she seems like she’s shopping for an entire year’s worth of clothing. The woman responds she was adding some items for her mom. The man then asks who she expects to pay for all these clothes, to which she confidently responds, “You.”
At that point, even the cashier’s raised eyebrows suggest that she could tell there would be no second date. The woman then asks her supposed date if the problem was that he didn’t like how the clothes looked on her, but he barely acknowledges the question and just says he thought they were making a “quick” run into the store.
Still, the woman continues insisting that he will pay for the shopping haul. The man then directs his instructions to the cashier and tells her to stop ringing up the items, but the woman gives her opposing instructions and tells her to continue. The two then start having a public debate over whether this shopping spree is something that should happen after they have consummated their relationship, even going as far as to ask the cashier, who is just trying to do her job.
The man then asks if the woman has any money to pay for her haul or if she is just wasting the cashier’s time. She simply responds, “I didn’t even bring my wallet.”
The man then just walks out of the store. There’s no indication whether this was actually a real encounter or just a prank being played on bystanders.
First dates shouldn’t be that expensive
Regardless, for users on X, the story grew beyond just whether the encounter was true. People were having a larger discussion about entitlement in contemporary dating culture. One user wrote, “She’s testing his bank account on day one.”

First date and she wants you to pay for things she grab like the first date this is why is hard to date. Woman expect you to pay on the first date.
