A Reddit post about a woman’s dinner quickly turned into a story about how her ex-husband, whom she divorced four years ago, was trying to get back into her life. In her post, she showed that she was having an energy drink and popcorn for dinner and explained that the reason she was doing so was because she couldn’t get her mind off the apology letter he had just handed her. “It was 15 pages long,” she exclaimed.
Calling it an apology letter turned out to be an overstatement. The woman explained that she had three children with her husband and that when he left them, their youngest was 1, the middle child was 3 and the oldest was 5. In the letter, he blamed her for their marriage falling apart because, apparently, she paid “too much” attention to the children and not enough attention to him.
She wrote that her husband had been acting out of character for a couple of months, and she eventually found out that he was having an affair with an employee they had hired at the family business. She explained that the family business was her retirement plan, so she had poured everything she had into it. She was therefore taken aback when she realized she was essentially paying the salary of the person her husband was having an affair with.
She was warned about him
The husband eventually told her that he believed she was standing in the way of his happiness and asked for a divorce so that he could be with the employee. Things didn’t quite work out the way he expected, and the other woman apparently left him as well.
Over the past four years, he has slowly been reintegrating himself into his children’s lives — the same children she still remembers him saying he was tired of. And it all climaxed with him handing her a 15-page letter with what she saw as half apologies. She wrote that what frustrated her most was how fond the children were of him. Because of that, she said she couldn’t work up an appetite, adding “I want to rip my hair out and scream,” which is why she told the community aptly named r/GirlDinnerDairies that she was having popcorn for dinner.
One user was curious whether he pays child support. The original poster responded, “Yes he pays the maximum in child support and spousal support. He never got an attorney, I had one. My attorney laughed at him A LOT. She said it was one of the easiest divorces she had ever done because he either was stupid or just didn’t care. Oddly, he’s never seemed to care about money.”
Other commenters urged her to be cautious, saying that he might eventually flake on the children again and leave them emotionally hurt. Some suggested that the letter could also become important if they ever have to go back to court.
He described himself as a “psychopath”
The original poster said that at one point, her ex-husband wrote that perhaps he was a “psychopath” for leaving his family behind without empathy. That seemingly struck a chord with her, but she said she didn’t buy much of what else was written in the letter.

Divorces are always hard, especially acrimonious ones. But perhaps the hardest are the ones that seem to leave no path toward even a semblance of amicability.
