Long-haul travel days are notoriously chaotic. They often force passengers to make last-minute decisions to grab a meal between tight connections. But for creator Jenn Tran (@jenntranx), grabbing hot dogs during an international layover resulted in a luxury fashion tragedy and an agonizingly awkward inflight crush.
In a hilarious TikTok storytime sitting at over 42,000 views, Tran unpacked her alleged chaotic travel day from Sicily to Cannes via Vienna. What she picked up to be a quick airport bite turned into a pungent lingering nightmare. It ruined her chance at romance and also left her designer luggage smelling like street food.
While unpacking everything from her hotel room, she regretted shoving the snack into her expensive bag. Thankfully, when she finally tasted it, it at least turned out to have a decent taste.

The saga began during a layover in Vienna after Tran spent hours traveling with little to eat. Hunting through the terminal for food, she says she settled on a local specialty: two wieners served with sauerkraut and a bun on an open paper tray.
Realizing her gate was actively boarding, Tran asked for her hot hogs to be packed. To her surprise, she was allegedly handed the meal in a simple paper bag. So, she shoved it directly into her Louis Vuitton duffel bag before sprinting to the plane.
Unsurprisingly, the food trapped inside a closed leather bag created an immediate scent disaster. By the time she reached her seat, the luxury duffel was reportedly infused with the sharp, unmistakable aroma of sausage and sauerkraut.

Making matters worse, Tran discovered that she was assigned a seat directly next to an extremely attractive stranger. “I hate myself. Tell me why today was the day I was sat next to the hottest man alive on the plane!” she exclaimed.
Horrified by the idea of releasing a cloud of wiener-and-sauerkraut fumes into the cabin, she was forced to sit hungry for the duration of the flight.
“Could you imagine I open this thing up, and I eat it on the plane… he’s not going to be in love after he sees my wieners!” Tran joked, mourning the lost romantic potential.

The embarrassment reached its peak when Tran finally arrived at her hotel in Cannes late that evening. While attempting to check in at the front desk, she had to un-zip her duffel to pull out her documents.
The moment the zipper opened, the trapped food odor hit the hotel reception area. This forced Tran to awkwardly confess her culinary secret to the front desk clerk. “I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I have wieners in my bag,'” she recalled, hanging her head in defeat.
How to safely remove stubborn food odors from designer leather bags
Transporting hot, greasy food inside high-end leather or coated canvas luggage poses a double threat. You have oil stains and then this deeply embedded odor. Coated canvas and untreated leather linings absorb airborne grease and volatile organic compounds rapidly when sealed in tight spaces.
However, you can still clear persistent food odors like of hot dogs or sauerkraut from luxury duffels without damaging sensitive materials. First, empty the bag, turn the fabric lining inside out if possible, and leave it in a well-ventilated, dry room away from direct sunlight.
To speed up the process, you can use odor-absorbing agents. Place open containers of baking soda, activated charcoal sachets, or dry coffee grounds inside the zipped bag for 24-48 hours. This will help pull trapped moisture and smell out of the lining.
