Couple finds stranger in their NYC apartment. She allegedly got in by telling the doorman a ridiculous lie

A couple was shocked to see an unknown woman walking around their NYC apartment after checking their home cameras. However, the mysterious woman apparently didn’t break in; rather, she was allegedly let in by the apartment building’s doorman after she told him a lie.

Bill and Yelim Kim from Queens were supposed to have been on a relaxing getaway, but that all changed in a moment after they received a notification from their home surveillance camera, which alerted them to a stranger lurking inside their apartment. “I was in disbelief. I just could not believe what I was seeing.” Bill Kim told FOX 5 NY.

The incident occurred on July 24 while the Kims were away. The footage shows the woman making herself at home on the couple’s couch, but the couple wonders how much further it would have gone had they not had the home security cameras. 

“We can’t help or wonder, what would she have done if we didn’t catch her on camera?” Bill Kim said, “If we didn’t have a security camera set up, would she have just stayed? This was almost 11 p.m. at night. Would she have slept in our bed?” All of these are frightening thoughts but the biggest question was: how did the stranger get into their home in the first place.

The doorman allegedly let the stranger in

Well, according to FOX 5 NY, the Kims claimed the woman was given keys to their apartment after falsely claiming to be a dog walker. The doorman allegedly didn’t verify if this was really the case and instead simply allowed the person access while the Kims weren’t there.

Emails reportedly sent out by management and obtained by FOX 5 NY apparently confirmed that this was what happened. The couple also claimed that they had never had a dog walker come to their apartment while they were not there. “We’ve never had an authorized guest,” Bill Kim said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with NYPD treating it as a burglary. According to the cops, they responded to a call and arrived at Purves Street just before 11 p.m. on July 24. They found the intruder as well as a damaged bookshelf, which the couple claimed happened after the woman found and ripped down the camera.

The building management company, Goose Property Management, sent an email to the couple claiming the concierge employee involved in the incident had “been permanently removed from the property.” They also claimed to have reviewed and improved the security features.

However, the couple are far from feeling confident in the building management’s security: “I’m freaking traumatized. I don’t know how else to, you know, describe it,” said Yelim Kim.
