Ubisoft has released a brand new Splinter Cell: Blacklist documentary video that highlights what players can expect from co-op in Sam Fisher’s next quest to eliminate a global terrorist threat.

Jumping into the co-op campaign gives players access to fourteen maps that tasks one player as playing Sam Fisher while the secondary player will fulfill the role of one of four unique co-op characters. By including a variety of characters to choose from the team has created a way to directly impact how your gameplay experience is effected. For instance, playing through a mission with Grim as second-in-command requires an entirely silent playthrough where one mistake forces you to restart.

Regardless of which character your partner chooses to be, the co-op missions are attempting to give players freedom in how they approach completing their objectives. Developing the co-op maps became a mission to ensure that both players remain engaged with each other to create a truly immersive co-operative experience. Achieving this task required that the team design each level in a non-linear way to limit the lone wolf playstyle. I mean, it is co-op right?

Interestingly, the team has decided to focus on the evolution of Sam’s relationship with the newly added Fourth Echelon operative Briggs. The newly added ex-CIA agent is very similar to a younger version of Fisher which allows him to slowly grow on the hardened veteran we all know and love. The relationship between these two characters is something that we get to see develop over the course of the entire single player campaign but the additional layer or development through co-op should prove for a fresh face in the Splinter Cell franchise.
