Bryan Singer is a busy man at the moment, putting the final touches on his super-sized return to the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Days Of Future Past. He’s seemingly cleared a bit of space in his schedule though, as The Wrap reports that the director will be at the helm of the pilot for Battle Creek, the new detective drama at CBS from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan.
The show revolves around two detectives who try to find a way to work together despite having very different world views. According to the official description, they must “answer the question: is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek Michigan in the face of a lack of resources, or will naiveté and trust get the job done?”
It sure sounds a lot like HBO’s current smash hit True Detective, but Battle Creek is a project that Gilligan first wrote over ten years ago. In fact, he pitched it to the studio back in 2002, but they passed on the project. Once Gilligan struck gold with Breaking Bad though, they were quick to “rediscover” his script and give it a straight-to-series order. Funny how Hollywood works, eh?
Gilligan will act as an executive producer on the series, with House M.D. creator/exec producer David Shore acting as the day-to-day showrunner. Singer’s involvement should come as no surprise then, as he directed the House pilot and was an executive producer on the show as well.
Days of Future Past arrives this year on May 22nd, while Apocalypse has a release date of May 27th, 2016. Now that Battle Creek has its director and series order, expect more details to surface in the near future.
