Go Insane With The Evil Within

Shinji Mikami's The Evil Within looks to take the, "Guy investigates old mental hospital and finds a lot more than he beckoned for" plot line to a whole new level when it launches this summer. That point was driven home even more today, when publisher Bethesda Softworks unleashed a brand new trailer for the game, which is ten times more intense and disturbing than anything we'd previously seen.

Shinji Mikami’s The Evil Within looks to take the, “Guy investigates old mental hospital and finds a lot more than he beckoned for” plot line to a whole new level when it launches this summer. That point was driven home even more today, when publisher Bethesda Softworks unleashed a brand new trailer for the game, which is ten times more intense and disturbing than anything we’d previously seen.

Coming to us in advance of the fanboy-packed PAX East convention, the newest preview of The Evil Within proves two things: The first is that the game won’t take any prisoners, and the second is that pregnant women and those with weak stomachs or low fear thresholds should steer clear. In fact, it does so with a montage of short clips, showing the game’s hero — detective Sebastian Castellanos — who is knocked unconscious during a group investigation into murderous occurrences at a local mental hospital, then wakes up to find that all Hell has broken loose. At least, that’s what I get from a story synopsis that simply says that the cop wakes up and realizes that shocking creatures have begun to roam among the dead within the asylum’s halls.

If you’re not squeamish, check out the trailer, with its gallons of blood and its Hellish imagery below. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, though.

The Evil Within will disturb Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC owners when its asylum opens on August 26.
