As the maintenance outage on the Playstation Network reaches day 6, the company issued a message this morning to its users on the Playstation Blog. While they give no concrete information on when the service will be back up and running, any form of communication to the users is better than none.

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time. As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

Speaking with PCWorld, SCEJ spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka said that a “thorough investigation” is ongoing into what was called an “external intrusion” into its system, which prompted the suspension of the service. According to Fukuoka, Sony has not yet determined whether users’ personal information or credit card numbers had been accessed by the apparent hackers. If that’s found to be the case, he assured us that Sony would promptly inform those potentially affected.

An update on the Playstation Blog on Saturday stated:

“Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.”

We’ll keep you updated as more news rolls in.
