Disney Confirms Layoffs At Black Rock Studios

Rumors surfaced last night that there may end up being 40 jobs cut at Disney owned developer Black Rock Studios (developers of such great racing titles as Split/Second and Pure.) Unfortunately, that rumor was partially confirmed by a Disney representative, though no number was given. "Disney Interactive Studios confirms a reduction of its workforce from its Brighton-based internal game development studio, Black Rock Studios," the representative was quoted as saying. "The studio will continue its work on its current project."

Rumors surfaced last night that there may end up being 40 jobs cut at Disney owned developer Black Rock Studios (developers of such great racing titles as Split/Second and Pure.) Unfortunately, that rumor was partially confirmed today by a Disney representative, though no number was given. “Disney Interactive Studios confirms a reduction of its workforce from its Brighton-based internal game development studio, Black Rock Studios,” the representative was quoted as saying. “The studio will continue its work on its current project.”

Eurogamer’s tipster seems to feel that it wasn’t 40 jobs that were in danger, but that it was actually the number of safe jobs. He seems to believe that up to 100 jobs could have been in danger. It’s too bad because the developer survived Disney’s ‘restructuring’ layoffs in January, at which time studio head Tony Beckwith stated his team was safe.

We wish all of those affected the best of luck in finding new employment quickly. It’s sad news, as the studio has had a good track record of creating quality games.
