Among Microsoft’s rejuvenated line-up of indie titles at this year’s Gamescom, one that stood head and shoulders above the rest based purely on its ethereal visual style was Ori and the Blind Forest. Initially revealed at E3 in June, Moon Studios’ platformer has been gaining traction of late thanks to its compelling narrative and Studio Ghibli-esque aesthetic.

And just yesterday, the studio unveiled an extended look at Ginza Tree — a hitherto unseen level that players will find about a quarter into the game — to showcase the Metroidvania-styled gameplay at the heart of Ori and the Blind Forest.

For the game, players will step into the shoes of Ori who, after tumbling into the titular forest, is adopted by a native bear creature (We did say it was akin to Studio Ghibli, didn’t we?). From there, our fairy-like protagonist must venture forth into the woodland area to complete its quest and unravel a true “coming-of-age” tale, according to the studio.

In addition, Moon Studios confirmed that familiar RPG elements will weave their way into the 2D platformer. And, judging by the footage below, the company are trying to instil a true sense of wonder akin to genre titles such as Rayman and, more recently, Ubisoft’s Child of Light.

Ori and the Blind Forest has been scheduled to release across Xbox One and PC in the fall of 2014. For more on Moon Studios’ game, be sure to check out our hands-on impressions.
