MTV’s Scream Adds Hot Teacher, Sheriff And Two More

Just two weeks ago, MTV announced that it had set director Jamie Travis (Faking It) to helm the pilot episode of a series based on the popular meta-horror Scream franchise. At the same time, the network revealed a cast of young up-and-comers, including Willa Fitzgerald (Alpha House, Royal Pains), Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (Key and Peele) and Amadeus Serafini. Now, some more casting news, including a major recasting, has been announced.

Bex Taylor-Klaus, who became a fan favorite on The CW’s Arrow with his portrayal of DC Comics character Sin, will be replacing Forsyth in the role of Audrey, the daughter of a Lutheran pastor, who is described as “an artsy loner who aspires to be a filmmaker.” Audrey used to be close friends with protagonist Emma Duvall (Fitzgerald), “a classic beauty whose looks and popularity hide a natural shyness and intellectual nature.” Emma, who bears similarities to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, regrets becoming estranged from Audrey as they entered different social crowds in high school.

Additionally, Connor Weil (Sharknado) will be a series regular, taking on the role of Will Belmont, an “all-American” basketball player deeply in love with his girlfriend Emma.

Bobby Campo (The Final Destination) will recur as Seth Branson, a hot English teacher at Lakewood High who charms his students and is considered to be one of the ‘cool’ teachers.

Finally, Joel Gretsch (Witches of East End) has landed the role of lovable Sheriff Clark Hudson, “a good guy and good sheriff who is father to Kieran (Serafini).” Hudson is to the series what David Arquette’s Deputy Dewey Riley was to the films.

Currently, only a pilot episode has been ordered. Travis is working from a script by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (Criminal Minds, Revenge) and alongside Jill Blotevogel (Harper’s Island), who is showrunner and exec producer. Harvey and Bob Weinstein are both also exec producing, alongside DiGia Vision’s Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, and hold-overs from the original film franchise including Wes Craven, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.

No word yet on when the pilot will roll cameras, but we’ll likely hear more about the Scream series in the coming weeks.
