Firaxis Games has unveiled the latest clip for its upcoming turn-based strategy game, Civilization: Beyond Earth, which leaves behind our humble pale blue dot as humanity departs for the stars.
The latest entry into Sid Meier’s revered series has been described as the spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri, another title produced by Meier that hit PC all the way back in 1999. In fact, Beyond Earth marks the first time that the Civilisation IP has taken place in the future, which opens up a host of new gameplay opportunities as you seek out to divide and conquer the dark recesses of space.
From the above footage, we gather that humanity has caused (or, for you optimists out there) been subjected to a catastrophic event known as “The Great Mistake,” which forces mankind to venture out into the final frontier in search of a new home. A plot not too dissimilar to that of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Interstellar: an earth on the brink of collapse that forces our humble species into action.
Regardless, here’s a snippet from Civilization: Beyond Earth’s official blurb:
“As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, lead your people into a new frontier, explore and colonize an alien planet and create a new civilization in space.”
Firaxis’ sci-fi-infused entry into the long-running franchise will come to PC platforms first on October 24th, before arriving on Mac and Linux at a later date — a port that’s been outsourced to Aspyr Media.
