With Grand Theft Auto V due to hit current-gen consoles next month — before a long-awaited launch on PC in the early stages of 2015 — users have spotted purported beta invites for the game circling in online forums.

However, in a post on the company’s official website, Rockstar Games stated explicitly that there is no pre-release beta for the upcoming rerelease and that any claims to the contrary are likely phishing scams.

Here’s the statement, courtesy of Rockstar:

“Please note: There is no pre-release ‘Beta’ test for Grand Theft Auto V. If you see ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this is likely some type of online phishing scam.”

Incidentally, the studio issued a like-for-like warning before the game’s release in September of last year, where scammers ran a similar scheme in an attempt to lure players towards an illicit set-up. Alas, it seems the best advice to take from this is to ignore everything that isn’t formally announced through Rockstar and wait patiently until Grand Theft Auto V releases in November.

Speaking of which, in the transition from one generation to the next, unconfirmed reports have indicated that the studio may be introducing a first-person mode into the current-gen version, whereas players can readily expect improvements across the board in terms of visuals and online stability — let’s face it, GTA V’s multiplayer has a habitat of being, well, temperamental.

Grand Theft Auto V is due to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18th, 2014. In the meantime, let us know if you’re encountered this scam in the comments section below.
