Marvel's Inhumans aren't set to get their big screen debut until November 2018, but the concept of genetically-modified, super-powered mutations through the form of Terragenesis will first be explored on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel’s Inhumans aren’t set to get their big screen debut until November 2018, but the concept of genetically-modified, super-powered mutations through the form of Terragenesis will first be explored on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The series has already planted seeds to make Chloe Bennett’s character, Skye, an Inhuman, and now Marvel has added a new Inhuman to the show’s cast.

The Tomorrow People alum Luke Mitchell has hopped on board as “a charismatic Inhuman” named Lincoln, who plays “in important role to play in Skye understanding the true extent of her transformation.” Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb, commented on Mitchell’s casting and on introducing more Inhumans into the series, saying:

“With the revelations surrounding Skye’s true identity in the Winter Finale, we knew we’d be introducing more Inhumans as our story progressed. The charming energy Luke brings to the role will make him a character to watch as we continue our season.”

Series star Clark Gregg recently talked about how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would begin to explore the Inhuman concept, and promised that it would have major implications on the series. How those ideas will spill into the rest of the MCU, and the Inhumans film, remain to be seen, but we’re certainly intrigued.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return from its extended Winter hiatus on Tuesday, March 3rd.
