After wowing audiences worldwide with her performance at last weekend’s Academy Awards show, Emmy award-winning artist and songwriter Lady Gaga has inked a deal to star in the fifth season of FX’s beloved drama, American Horror Story.

Taking to Twitter, the songstress posted an appropriately creepy clip announcing her role, and that the upcoming series will be titled “Hotel.”

While co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk remained coy on the specifics of the role, today’s news means that Lady Gaga — aka Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — is the first talent to commit to the upcoming season. AHS will serve as the first regular TV role for the pop icon, and her casting is no doubt a major coup for Murphy, Falchuck and FX for one of their flagship series.

Having already attracted the likes of Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates, Murphy hinted at his method of approach when it comes to luring some of the industry’s biggest talents.

“It always just comes down to pure fandom with me,” he has told Variety. “I just speak from the heart about why I love them.”

Production is set to get underway in July, with a premiere date scheduled for October in keeping with previous seasons. Speaking of which, not much is known about the setting of American Horror Story season five outside of the aforementioned moniker. According to Murphy, numerous clues where scattered throughout the course of the fourth season — itself set against a freak show — that hinted at the theme of AHS’ upcoming stint, but so far nobody has been able to deduce what they mean.

As for Gaga, the songstress is no stranger to acting, having appeared in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills not to mention a cameo role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Given that the fourth incarnation of FX’s hit series featured musical performances from fan favorite Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, there’s every chance that the network will weave Gaga’s singing abilities into the story in one way or another.

American Horror Story is expected to return for a fifth season in the fall, and if pervious years have taught us anything, we’ll likely find out more information about its Hotel theme during PaleyFest in March.
