CBS’ upcoming Supergirl series has just gained a few exciting additions, both behind and in front of the camera. According to THRArrow and The Flash producer Andrew Kreisberg has come aboard the series to help Greg Berlanti (also of The Flash and Arrow fame) and Chuck‘s Ali Adler with producing duties. On top of that, Supergirl has cast Chyler Leigh and David Harewood in regular roles.

Leigh – most recognizable for her long stint as Lexie Grey on Grey’s Anatomy – will play Kara Zor-El’s foster sister, Alexandra “Alex” Danvers. The report describes her as a “confident” woman, who is “fascinated by Kara’s powers from a young age [and] developed a lifelong obsession with science that inspired her to become a doctor.”

Homeland alum David Harewood will play DC Comics character Hank Henshaw, known by comic book readers as the man who becomes Cyborg Superman. In the show, he’ll be a one-time CIA agent who is now in charge of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), which monitors extraterrestrial threats on Earth. I’m guessing that, before long, Supergirl winds up on his radar. Whether or not he’ll make the transition into Cyborg Superman remains to be seen, but it’s an interesting possibility.

I’m definitely excited about these new additions, and am very happy with how Supergirl is shaping up so far. Harewood and Leigh join Glee‘s Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, True Blood alum Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Nashville‘s Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, and Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

Supergirl has a series commitment from CBS, and is expected to air this fall.
